GAIL To Expand Jamnagar-Loni LPG Pipeline
GAIL (India) Limited has approved a significant capacity expansion of the Jamnagar-Loni LPG pipeline, doubling its capacity from 3.25 million metric tonnes per annum (MMTPA) to 6.5 MMTPA. The expanded 1,107 km pipeline will run through Gujarat, Rajasthan, Haryana, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh, aiming to meet rising petroleum product demand and strengthen India’s energy infrastructure.
The ₹5,350 crore project will improve the existing system’s transportation capacity, ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable LPG delivery. Pipeline transport is more energy-efficient, safer, and environmentally friendly compared to roadways, aligning with India’s net-zero goals.
Additionally, GAIL approved a 114 km natural gas spur line from Vijaipur to the BPCL refinery in Bina, Madhya Pradesh, costing ₹450 crore. This supports refinery expansion and a new petrochemical plant. GAIL also sanctioned a 20-tonne-per-day Compressed Biogas plant in Sultanpur, Uttar Pradesh, producing 88 tonnes of organic manure daily using agricultural waste. The plant features zero wastewater discharge, highlighting GAIL’s commitment to sustainability. The Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board oversees LPG pipeline authorizations under the PNGRB Act, 2006.
