Mizoram Government Cracks Down on Fake Family Pension Beneficiaries

The Mizoram Government has launched a statewide drive encouraging individuals receiving Family Pension through fraudulent or invalid documents to voluntarily surrender their Pension Payment Orders (PPOs) within a three-month window. The initiative, introduced by the Finance Department, aims to curb the misuse of public funds while providing an opportunity for voluntary compliance before strict enforcement begins.

Launching the programme on Wednesday, Chief Minister Lalduhoma urged ineligible beneficiaries to surrender their PPOs during the designated period. He stated that those who voluntarily come forward will not be required to repay the pension amounts already received, as the government has decided to waive recovery during the surrender window.

The Chief Minister said that once the three-month period ends, a government-appointed Task Force will conduct a comprehensive field verification of all Family Pension beneficiaries across the state. Any individual found to have obtained pension benefits through forged or invalid documents will have their pension discontinued and will face legal action.

Lalduhoma expressed concern over the misuse of the Family Pension system, noting that while some beneficiaries may have intentionally submitted fraudulent documents, others may have done so unknowingly. He reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring transparency, protecting public resources, and maintaining the integrity of the pension system through fair verification and strict action against proven violations.
