Chief Election Commissioner Outlines Key Reforms at AIMC 2026

Nine journalists from Nagaland were part of a prominent cohort of over 350 media personnel from across the nation who attended the All India Media Conference (AIMC) 2026. The prestigious event, organized by the Election Commission of India (ECI), was held at the India International Institute of Democracy and Election Management (IIIDEM) in Dwarka, New Delhi, on July 17.

In his address to the gathering, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar termed the conference a much-awaited initiative. He strongly underscored the critical role of the media as one of the most vital stakeholders in sustaining a healthy democratic setup. Highlighting recent technological advancements, the CEC detailed the newly launched ‘ECINet’ app, explaining that all data legally required for public dissemination has been integrated into the platform to ensure maximum accountability in the country’s electoral process. He also commended the tireless efforts of over 27 lakh Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and Booth Level Agents (BLAs) who continuously work to update the nation’s electoral rolls.

Emphasizing India’s immense electoral credibility, Kumar stated that the nation possesses one of the most transparent electoral systems globally. He noted that official delegations from around 40 democratic countries frequently visit India to study its robust electoral practices. Furthermore, he highlighted that voter turnout in many Indian states has even surpassed nations where voting is legally mandatory, attributing this achievement to systemic ECI reforms. The day-long conference concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session led by the Commissioner, alongside comprehensive technical presentations covering constitutional laws, technology integration, and detailed polling and counting processes.
