Himanta Biswa Sarma Appeals To Stand By Flood-Hit; Air Force Drops Aid In Sivasagar

Thousands of people in Upper Assam are struggling due to floods! Although the fury of the deluge has subsided, the devastation caused by the destructive floods has not yet ended. In the aftermath of the floods, the affected people are now crying out for a meal of rice, a sip of water, and a piece of clothing. At such a time, various voluntary organizations, groups, artists, cultural personalities, and generous individuals from across the state have come forward to help these flood victims. While everyone is standing together during this flood situation, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has now made a special appeal regarding flood relief distribution.

On Sunday, through a live broadcast on social media, the Chief Minister said that flood relief and rehabilitation work is currently underway in full swing across the state. However, many areas are still cut off by road and waterways, due to which relief materials cannot be sent to all places immediately.

According to the Chief Minister, the Indian Air Force has been distributing relief materials by air in remote flood-affected areas, including the Nazira constituency of Sivasagar district, since Saturday. Even on Sunday, Air Force helicopters delivered relief materials to several other cut-off areas of Sivasagar. At the same time, various government agencies have continued rescue operations by boat and the distribution of relief materials.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister also informed that a central government assessment team has started touring the state from Sunday to take stock of the damage caused by the floods. The team will inspect the affected districts and submit a detailed report to the central government.

Commenting on the delay in relief distribution, the Chief Minister said, “No flood-affected area has been neglected by the government. But due to the flood situation, the administration has still not been able to reach many places. In such a situation, people’s dissatisfaction is natural. Even then, the government is making continuous efforts to reach every affected person.”

Highlighting the massive impact of the floods on the education sector as well, the Chief Minister said that classrooms and premises of many schools in Charaideo and Sivasagar have been filled with mud and silt. The government is taking steps to provide urgent financial assistance to reactivate these schools, and arrangements have also been made to transfer funds directly to the schools.

At the same time, appealing to BJP workers to come forward to help flood-affected families, the Chief Minister said that with voluntary contributions from the party’s nearly 50 lakh members in the state, a target has been set to collect around ₹12 crore. With this fund, sarees-mekhelas will be distributed to flood-affected women and pants-T-shirts to children.

The Chief Minister also announced that after the conclusion of the budget session, every state government minister will be assigned responsibility for rehabilitation and reconstruction work in Sivasagar, Charaideo, Golaghat, and Jorhat districts.
