Nagaland Strengthens Green Office Mission, Urges Ban on Single-Use Plastics

Nagaland Chief Secretary Sentiyanger Imchen on Thursday directed all government departments to prepare practical and implementable action plans to enforce the state’s plastic-free initiative, beginning with the Nagaland Civil Secretariat in Kohima.

Chairing a meeting of administrative heads and heads of departments at the Secretariat Conference Hall, Imchen urged government offices to take the lead in promoting environmentally sustainable practices. He emphasised that departments should set an example by adopting responsible measures to reduce plastic usage and create cleaner workplaces.

During the meeting, Home Commissioner Abhijit Sinha presented the government’s Plastic Free and Green Office Initiative. He highlighted the importance of eliminating single-use plastic materials, particularly during official programmes, meetings, and office events. He called upon all departments to strictly follow the guidelines and work together to establish plastic-free government offices across the state.

Principal Secretary and Development Commissioner Y. Kikheto Sema directed departments to complete activities under the State Plan within the prescribed timelines to ensure smooth and timely implementation of government programmes.

The meeting also discussed comprehensive manpower rationalisation, with Secretary and Chairperson of the Comprehensive Manpower Rationalisation Committee Akubu Meyase explaining the need for efficient utilisation and optimisation of human resources across government departments.

Officials present at the meeting shared their suggestions and views on various issues requiring attention. The discussions focused on strengthening administrative efficiency while promoting sustainable and responsible governance practices in Nagaland.
