Niketu Iralu Remembered as a Veteran Peace Builder and Conscience Keeper

The body of veteran Naga peace activist Niketu Iralu reached Dimapur Airport on Wednesday, where hundreds of people gathered for a public homecoming reception to honour the respected Naga elder and bid him a final farewell. Organised by Khonoma Rüffûno Nagaland, the reception brought together people from different walks of life, many dressed in traditional attire. Iralu, who passed away at the age of 91, was remembered for his contributions to peacebuilding and his efforts to promote reconciliation among communities. Tributes were offered by leaders including Angami Public Organization president Thejao Vihienuo, Tenyimi Peoples Organization president Timikha Koza, Naga Council Dimapur president GK Rengma, Chakhroma Public Organisation president Zhato Kimho and Fellowship of Naga Baptist Association president Rev. Dr. Visor H. Zeliang. A reception banner described Iralu as a “Veteran Naga Peace Builder & Conscience Keeper” and highlighted his message on forgiveness and reconciliation. His final funeral service is scheduled to be held at noon on August 20 at Shalom Bible Seminary in Sechu Zubza, where family, friends and well-wishers are expected to gather to pay their final respects.
