Child Allegedly Hit by Scorpio in Assam, Vehicle Intercepted After 40-Km Chase

A child was allegedly injured after being hit by a Scorpio vehicle at Akashiganga in Assam, triggering a dramatic chase by local residents that stretched nearly 40 kilometres before the vehicle was finally intercepted by police, officials said.

The incident reportedly occurred on the night of September 30 when a Scorpio bearing registration number AS02 AA 0150 allegedly struck the child and fled the scene. Local residents immediately began pursuing the vehicle in an attempt to stop it.

According to eyewitnesses, the driver continued speeding towards Nagaon despite repeated attempts by residents to intercept the vehicle. The Scorpio allegedly ignored signals to stop and continued its journey, leading to a prolonged chase.

Residents claimed that the vehicle sustained significant damage during the pursuit, but the driver still refused to halt. They further alleged that the Scorpio dragged a police naka-checking barricade for some distance and caused damage at the Doboka toll gate while attempting to escape.

The occupants of the vehicle also allegedly threatened people who were chasing them, according to locals.

The vehicle was eventually intercepted by personnel from the Nonoi Police Outpost in Nagaon. Police detained two youths who were travelling in the Scorpio and brought them in for questioning.

Officials said the condition of the child injured in the incident has not yet been confirmed.

Police have launched an investigation into the alleged hit-and-run case and are examining the circumstances surrounding the accident, the subsequent chase, and the reported damage caused during the vehicle’s escape attempt.
