Elon Musk Unveils New Company ‘Macrohard’

Elon Musk announced on Friday the launch of a new company named Macrohard, aimed at challenging Microsoft’s dominance in software by harnessing AI. Confirming the news via a post on X, Musk described the name as “tongue-in-cheek,” but affirmed the project’s seriousness. He remarked that since companies like Microsoft don’t produce physical hardware, AI should be able to replicate their software functions entirely.

According to media reports, Musk’s AI firm xAI filed for a Macrohard trademark with the US Patent and Trademark Office on August 1. The filing outlines several AI-based offerings, including software for generating human-like speech and text, as well as tools for designing and playing AI-powered video games. Musk had previously hinted that this AI company would feature hundreds of specialized agents working collaboratively, simulating human interaction within virtual machines to perfect outcomes.

Musk’s relationship with Microsoft and CEO Satya Nadella has been mixed. He’s criticized Microsoft over its ties to OpenAI but also collaborated with the company by making Grok 3 models available on Azure. Musk has also promoted xAI’s Grok 4 and teased the upcoming Grok 5 model as superior alternatives in the AI space.
