Gauhati High Court has directed four Northeast states form a panel to address forest encroachments

The Gauhati High Court has mandated that Nagaland, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, and Mizoram establish a high-level committee to tackle forest encroachments along their inter-state borders.

The court directed the chief secretaries, heads of the forest departments, and other relevant stakeholders from each state to convene a joint meeting and develop a thorough plan to eliminate encroachments in forested regions.

The states are required to present the committee’s resolutions and a report on the actions taken by the next hearing scheduled for November 4.
