India Pricing Was A “Glitch”, Just Dummy Data, Says Starlink
Starlink has clarified that a recent pricing display on its India website was due to a technical glitch and does not reflect actual costs for its service in the country. The site had briefly shown a monthly fee of ₹8,600, with new subscribers required to purchase a hardware kit for ₹34,000.
Lauren Dreyer, Starlink’s VP and Senior Director of Business Operations, confirmed via X that the India website is not live, pricing has not been announced, and the company is not yet accepting orders. She explained the error was caused by dummy test data, which was quickly corrected.
Starlink is focused on securing final government approvals to launch its service, emphasizing high-speed internet with plug-and-play installation, extreme weather resistance, 99.9% uptime, and no data caps. The company has also recently recruited Bengaluru-based staff for roles in payments, accounting, treasury, and taxation, indicating preparation for operations in India.
Meanwhile, the Maharashtra government signed a Letter of Intent with Starlink to deploy satellite internet for government institutions, rural communities, and critical infrastructure in remote districts. CM Devendra Fadnavis welcomed Starlink, highlighting its global ICT prominence and marking Maharashtra as the first Indian state to collaborate formally with the company.
