3 Killed, 3 Injured in Mizoram Electrocution
Three people, including a 16-year-old boy, were killed and three others injured after they were electrocuted while shifting an electric pole at a highway construction site in Mizoram’s Kolasib district, police said on Sunday.
The incident took place at around 1 pm on Saturday at Sethawn near Kolasib, where six labourers were engaged in shifting an electric pole as part of an ongoing four-lane highway project, Kolasib Superintendent of Police Lalrinpuia Varte said.
According to police, the workers were employed by a sub-contractor responsible for replacing electric poles that had been damaged during the widening of National Highway 306 (NH-306).
The highway serves as a key road link between Mizoram and Assam and is being widened under a project being executed by the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL).
The three workers who survived the incident were taken for medical treatment following the electrocution. Police said further details about their condition were not immediately available.
The circumstances that led to the workers coming into contact with electricity while shifting the pole were also not immediately clear. Police are examining the incident and the conditions at the construction site.
The accident occurred amid ongoing highway widening work in the area, which involves shifting or replacing infrastructure affected by the expansion of the road.
