Assam’s Manasjyoti Boruah & Rehan Ahmed Selected for AFC U-17 Asian Cup, India Eyes World Cup Spot

Good news for the football world in Assam. Two talented players from the state, Manasjyoti Boruah and Rehan Ahmed, have secured places in the Indian squad announced by the Football Federation for the AFC U-17 Asian Cup, which begins on May 5 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The team, currently training in Qatar, will depart for Jeddah tomorrow. India’s group includes Australia and Uzbekistan. From this competition, eight countries from the Asian continent will qualify for the FIFA U-17 World Cup to be held in Qatar later this year. The fate of two countries from each of the four groups will be decided.
India also has an opportunity to qualify for the World Cup. India will face Australia on May 6 and will play their final group match against Uzbekistan on May 10. India still has a chance even if they win just one of the two matches. Manasjyoti Boruah, who earned a place in the team, is a goalkeeper, while Rehan Ahmed is a striker. Both players have recently maintained excellent form. Out of the total 23 players in the Indian squad, 13 are from the Northeast.
