Sanju Samson Scripts History Against Delhi Capitals

Sanju Samson, representing Chennai Super Kings (CSK) following a major trade from Rajasthan Royals, etched his name in the record books during Match 48 of IPL 2026 against Delhi Capitals. During his match-winning, unbeaten knock of 87* off 52 balls on May 5, Samson became the first batter in IPL history to be involved in two 100-plus partnerships against the same opponent in a single edition of the tournament. His first major stand against Delhi earlier in the season was a 113-run partnership with Ayush Mhatre in Chennai, followed by yesterday’s unbeaten 114-run stand with youngster Kartik Sharma at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

This historic performance also placed Samson in an elite group alongside Virat Kohli and KL Rahul for the most runs scored against a single opponent in one IPL season. With his scores of 115* and 87* across two matches against the Capitals, Samson amassed a total of 202 runs against DC, the third-highest aggregate by any batter against one team in a single year. This dominant display helped CSK secure a vital 8-wicket victory, keeping their playoff hopes alive while pushing Delhi Capitals closer to elimination.
