Diamond Harbour Makes History: I-League Champions Earn ISL Spot

After Mohun Bagan, East Bengal, and Mohammedan Sporting, this time it is Diamond Harbour’s turn. By virtue of becoming the I-League champion, the team has earned the opportunity to play in the country’s top league, the ISL, next year. Needing just a draw in the final match to become the I-League champion—with this equation ahead, Diamond Harbour fell behind by one goal in the 50th minute against Dempo. In the final moments of the match, they managed to equalize very dramatically with a goal from Sogo Diaz Rodriguez. With 26 points from 13 matches, Diamond Harbour captured the title. With 25 points from the same number of matches is Banars Shillong Lajong (Note: phonetic literal reading of text wording). Diamond Harbour has made unbelievable progress over the last 5 years. Consecutively winning I-League 3 and I-League 2, they entered the I-League and won the title in their very first attempt.
