Cachar Farmer Abducted by Bangladeshis, BGB Returns Him in Hours
Amid the ongoing controversy over illegal infiltration along the India-Bangladesh border, a farmer from Assam was abducted this time. It has been reported that a group of Bangladeshi nationals abducted a farmer named Ranjit Das of Cachar district from a border-adjacent area on Tuesday morning. However, on the same day at night, the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) handed the farmer over to Indian authorities.
According to information, farmer Ranjit Das went missing while he had gone to cut grass in the border-adjacent area. Locals claimed that the farmer was taken to Bangladesh from the ‘Zero Point’ area outside the barbed-wire fence on the Indian side of the border.
The incident heightened tension in the border area. Efforts to resolve the issue began with the intervention of the border security forces of both countries. Later, at around 10 pm on Tuesday, the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) handed the farmer over to Indian authorities.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident, nine suspected Bangladeshi infiltrators were found stranded in the ‘No Man’s Land’ area along the border in South Salmara-Mankachar district. A meeting between the border guard forces of both countries was also held regarding this incident.
These two incidents on the border have once again brought the security and humanitarian issues of the India-Bangladesh border to the centre of discussion.
