Income Tax department intensifies vigil ahead of Nagaon bye-election, opens complaint cells
The Income Tax department, in its continued endeavour to assist the Election Commission of India in curbing the use of black money and illicit funds in elections, has established a 24×7 control room-cum-complaint cell to monitor and receive complaints regarding the movement and use of unaccounted cash and other valuables during the upcoming bye-election to the Nagaon Parliamentary constituency of Assam.
The Income Tax department has appealed to the residents and citizens of Assam to actively contribute towards ensuring a clean, free and fair election by sharing credible information regarding any suspicious movement or distribution of cash, bullion, precious metals or other valuables suspected to be intended for electoral purposes.
During the period of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC), the Directorate of Income Tax (Investigation), NER, Guwahati will maintain strict vigil over the movement of unaccounted cash, bullion, precious metals and other valuables that may be used for electoral purposes within the State.

Citizens may contact the landline and mobile numbers at any time during the period of the Model Code of Conduct to provide information regarding suspected electoral malpractice involving unaccounted money or valuables.
Informants are not required to disclose their name or identity while providing information, said a press release. However, the Income Tax department has urged citizens to ensure that the information provided is credible, specific and actionable so that appropriate action may be taken by the authorities.
The Control Room-cum-Complaint Cell will remain functional from the date of announcement of the bye-election till the completion of the election process.
