Twelve UG and Twelve PG Colleges Qualify for National Grand Finale

The National Institute of Securities Markets (NISM), in collaboration with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), successfully conducted the North-Eastern Regional Round of the National Financial Literacy Quiz (NFLQ) 2026 at Cotton University, Guwahati, on September 12 and 13. The two-day event witnessed enthusiastic participation from undergraduate and postgraduate students representing Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura.

The quiz tested participants on financial markets, investment principles, investor protection and responsible financial practices. The Guwahati round marked the fifth regional leg of NFLQ 2026, following competitions in Kolkata, Mumbai, New Delhi and Bengaluru. More than four lakh students participated in the nationwide college and online qualifying rounds, with top-performing teams advancing to regional contests across the country.

Addressing the participants, NISM Director Sashi Krishnan said financial literacy is not only about understanding financial concepts but also about knowing where and when to exercise caution while handling money. He said the quiz promotes immersive learning by exposing students to real-world financial concepts related to securities markets, banking and insurance, helping them develop financial skills and risk awareness necessary for informed decision-making.

SEBI officials M.V.N. Surya Kumar and K. Satish Babu highlighted the importance of investor awareness, stating that an informed investor forms the foundation of a resilient and trustworthy securities market. They said initiatives such as the National Financial Literacy Quiz help students gain an early understanding of investing, market regulations and investor protection, while encouraging responsible participation in India’s growing financial ecosystem.

NFLQ 2026 is part of NISM’s broader outreach programme aimed at strengthening awareness of securities markets and promoting informed financial decisions among students. The competition covers financial products, market mechanisms, investor rights, regulations and the role of market intermediaries. Regional rounds are being held across Mumbai, New Delhi, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Guwahati and Kolkata, with the best-performing teams advancing to the National Grand Finale in November 2026 at the NISM Campus in Patalganga, Rasayani, Maharashtra.
