Arunachal Seeks Tailored Disaster Solutions as Monsoon Damage Mounts

A high-level delegation from NITI Aayog visited Arunachal Pradesh on Thursday to assess the damage caused by recent floods and review measures to strengthen disaster resilience, as heavy monsoon rains continue to trigger floods and landslides across the state. The visit comes amid reports that more than one lakh people have been affected by the ongoing monsoon-related disasters.

The delegation, led by NITI Aayog member Dr. Joram Aniya, included National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) member Rita Missal and senior officials from NITI Aayog, the NDMA and the Central Water Commission. The team held discussions with the state government on disaster preparedness, mitigation strategies and long-term development planning.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu welcomed the delegation and thanked the members for conducting a ground-level assessment of the flood-affected areas. He said such visits provide policymakers with a better understanding of the challenges faced by people in Arunachal Pradesh and help shape effective support measures.

Khandu emphasised that disaster management in Arunachal Pradesh requires solutions tailored to the state’s unique geographical and climatic conditions rather than a one-size-fits-all approach. He stressed the importance of strengthening resilience and improving preparedness to minimise the impact of recurring natural disasters.

The state government and the visiting delegation are expected to work closely on developing strategies to enhance disaster response capabilities and support long-term resilience as Arunachal Pradesh continues to face the challenges of the monsoon season.
