Bhattacharya Calls for Regulated Volleyball Matches in Assam to Protect Players’ Health

For the greater interest of Assam Volleyball, Abhijit Bhattacharya, former captain of the Indian National Team and General Secretary of the Assam Volleyball Association, has put forward several important suggestions. Among these, the most significant is his call for organizing matches that conclude before 11:00 PM so that players can participate in competitions with the permission of the Assam Volleyball Association for their long-term improvement.
It is understood that many volleyball competitions are held across Assam. These are organized at regional, district, and some commercial levels. While these competitions are often well-organized, some are held without the permission of the Assam Volleyball Association. In these instances, organizers often fail to follow proper rules and regulations, leading to matches that end at irregular times.
Bhattacharya emphasized that everyone should support these competitions, but they must be conducted properly. Some matches currently held without Association permission continue until 2:00 or 3:00 AM. This creates several issues regarding game management. While these games do help increase the popularity of volleyball to some extent, the lack of proper timing and regulation creates physical difficulties for players, such as injuries to the waist, hands, knees, and ankles.
When such problems arise, players often find themselves without support. Furthermore, while players might earn some money from these matches, they eventually have to spend significant amounts on medical treatment. Generally, players aged 28 to 30 are the ones facing these long-term issues.
Abhijit Bhattacharya stated that within the next one to two years, these competitions will be categorized systematically—Gold, Silver, and Bronze—to provide better structure, equipment, and registration under the Assam Volleyball Association.
