Literary Meet in Jalukbari Honors Saint-Scholar Srimanta Sankardeva

The fourth meeting of the 31st year of the Jalukbari Lekhika Samaroh Samiti was held at the Gauhati University Model English School, coinciding with the birth anniversary celebrations of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardeva. Presided over by the Samiti’s President, Pragya Goswami, the meeting began with an opening song by the members, followed by the explanation of the meeting’s objectives and the reading of the previous meeting’s report by Secretary Gitika Das.

At the outset, the members observed a minute of silence to express deep condolences over the demise of poet, literary critic, and translator Anis Uz Zaman. In line with the birth anniversary of Srimanta Sankardeva, Monika Patowary performed a Borgeet composed by the saint. Articles discussing various aspects of Srimanta Sankardeva’s life, philosophy, literature, and culture were read by Gitali Devi, Baijayanti Rabha, Runumi Nath, and Monirupa Mishra. Gitika Sharma performed a Ghoxa, while Rekha Baishya and Manasi Sharma recited their self-composed poems. Gitika Das recited a poem by Nilmani Phukan, and Mamoni Sharma read a self-composed short story. Songs were performed by Runumi Nath and Rekha Baishya. President Pragya Goswami also recited a self-composed poem themed around the month of Ahin. The meeting concluded with the state anthem (*O Mur Apunar Desh), and Monirupa Mishra offered the vote of thanks.
