New Zealand Suffers Double Blow as Matt Henry Also Injured
The New Zealand cricket team has suffered a major setback in the middle of the ongoing T20 series against India. The team’s star fast bowler Lockie Ferguson has been ruled out of the remaining matches of the series due to a foot injury. He injured his right foot during the second T20 match held at Hagley Oval. According to New Zealand Cricket Board after examination, Ferguson will need about a week to fully recover from this injury.
New pacer Matt Fisher has been included in the New Zealand squad in place of Ferguson. It is to be noted that Ferguson’s performance in the first two matches of this series was 0/37 and 1/34 respectively. The absence of the experienced Ferguson, who has taken 77 wickets in 56 T20 International matches, will create a void in the Kiwi camp. Meanwhile, his replacement Matt Fisher has played only two international T20 matches so far.
Meanwhile, another main bowler of the team, Matt Henry, has also been injured. Henry, who was suffering from pain during the second T20 match, has also been diagnosed with a mild muscle strain. However, after planned workload management and necessary treatment, Henry is likely to recover before the upcoming ODI series.
New Zealand head coach Rob Walter expressed sorrow over the injuries of both the main bowlers and said, injury is an inevitable part of international cricket, but it is always painful when players have to be ruled out of important matches. The coach also informed that pacer Kyle Jamieson will join the national team for the ODI series on coming Monday after playing the Ford Trophy for Canterbury.
In the five-match T20 series, India has already taken the series with a 3-0 lead. The fourth match of the series will be held on Friday at Eden Park, Auckland.
