NPYC Holds Induction Programme, Focuses on Youth Opportunities and Public Engagement

The Nagaland Pradesh Youth Congress (NPYC) held an induction-cum-thanksgiving programme at Premier Lodge, 4th Mile, Agri Expo, Chümoukedima, on September 26, marking the formal assumption of office by its newly elected leadership. The programme was preceded by a victory rally that began from the residence of Nagavito Sumi, senior leader of the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC), PCC member from Ghaspani-I and NPYC adviser, before culminating at the venue. The event had originally been planned around the visit of Indian Youth Congress (IYC) president Uday Bhanu Chib, who was scheduled to arrive at Dimapur Airport and participate in the rally and programme. However, Chib could not attend due to unavoidable circumstances, and the programme proceeded as scheduled. Addressing the solidarity session, NPCC working president C. Apok Jamir described the occasion as timely amid challenges facing the state and the country. He highlighted the responsibility of citizens, particularly young people, in safeguarding democratic and constitutional values. Jamir urged vigilance against aggression, atrocities and practices that he described as unconstitutional. Formally assuming office as NPYC president, Herole Y said he was taking up the responsibility “to serve, to listen, and to understand,” while seeking to connect with the youth of Nagaland. He said a stronger and hardworking generation of Naga youth was emerging but pointed to a lack of platforms, facilities and employment opportunities as challenges. Calling on young people to move beyond complacency, Herole encouraged them to participate actively in public affairs and raise their concerns directly with the government, particularly on opportunities, employment, privileges and skill development. The programme also saw the formal presentation of appointment letters to the elected District Youth Congress presidents in the presence of NPYC leaders and Congress functionaries. Earlier, designated NPYC vice president Longme Konyak delivered the welcome address-cum-presentation, while designated general secretary Izwagong S. Sanding proposed the vote of thanks. The programme also featured a special performance by Lucy Anar and concluded with a benediction by designated NPYC adviser Rovi Wazah. The gathering brought together NPYC leaders, Congress functionaries and youth representatives for the induction of the new leadership. The programme provided an occasion to formally begin the new team’s tenure while outlining priorities related to youth participation, employment, skills and public engagement. Speakers also stressed the need for young people to take a more active role in matters affecting their communities and future. The event combined organisational proceedings with discussions on youth concerns and civic participation, while the appointment of district presidents established leadership at the district level. The newly elected leadership is expected to engage with young people across Nagaland and work on issues raised during the programme. The event concluded with acknowledgements and a call for youth involvement in public affairs.
