Silt-Covered Bodies Found as Floodwaters Recede in Sivasagar

The search for missing people in the flood-ravaged Nepalikhuti village of Assam’s Sivasagar district took a tragic turn after two bodies were recovered from beneath thick layers of silt as floodwaters receded. The grim discovery was made when residents returned to the village and began clearing mud and debris from damaged homes and surrounding areas to assess the extent of the destruction caused by the recent floods.

According to local residents, the first body was spotted near the riverbank, with only the legs visible above the accumulated silt while the rest of the body remained buried beneath mud and sediment. The second body was recovered from under a deep layer of deposited silt near the house of Sonu Karmarkar during the clean-up operation.

The village continues to bear the scars of the devastating floods, with household items, including refrigerators and furniture, scattered across the area and partially buried under flood deposits. Residents are still searching for people who remain unaccounted for, even as they struggle to restore their homes and rebuild their lives. The recovery of the two bodies has highlighted the severity of the disaster and underscored the challenges faced by affected communities as rescue, recovery, and rehabilitation efforts continue across the flood-hit region.
