Three Killed, Two Critically Injured as Vehicle Catches Fire After Crash in Assam’s Nagaon

Three people were burnt alive and two others suffered critical injuries after a vehicle caught fire following a collision with a streetlight pole in Assam’s Nagaon district, officials said.

The accident occurred at Kenapatty in Puranigudam while the vehicle, bearing registration number AR 01 W 5107, was travelling from Arunachal Pradesh to Guwahati. Preliminary investigations suggest that the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a streetlight pole located on the road divider.

The impact triggered a fire that rapidly engulfed the vehicle. Three occupants became trapped inside and were unable to escape, resulting in their deaths. Two other passengers sustained severe burn injuries and were rescued from the scene.

The injured have been identified as Vikas Kumar and Sonu Kumar, both of whom are reported to be in critical condition. They have been shifted to Guwahati for advanced medical treatment.

According to officials, all the occupants were believed to be residents of Bihar. Preliminary information indicates that the three victims who died had joined the vehicle midway during its journey.

Police said the vehicle was owned by Vikas Kumar, while Sonu Kumar was driving at the time of the accident. An investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause of the crash.
