ABSU stages protest at Gauhati University against ‘misrepresentation’ of Bodo language

The All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) staged a protest at Gauhati University against the representation of the Bodo language in Hamkoshar Parishista, a multilingual appendix containing learning resources for indigenous languages of Assam, including Bodo, Rabha, Mising and Karbi.
During the protest, ABSU members burned a copy of the publication, alleging that the Bodo language has been represented using Assamese Script instead of the Bodo Devanagari script. The organisation asserted that Bodo is an Eighth Schedule-recognised language and an Associate Official Language of Assam, and demanded proper recognition and representation of its script in educational resources.
ABSU president Kwrwmdao Wary addressed the press at Gauhati University and outlined the organisation’s objections. Members of the Kamrup Metropolitan District Committee ABSU and Gauhati University Unit of ABSU also participated in the protest.
