BCCI’s Pace Plan: 3 Coaches, 1 Goal – To Find India’s Next Bumrah

There is currently no alternative to a fit pace bowler in Indian cricket. No one can form a strong combination like the team of the recent past. Due to excessive usage, a bowler like Jasprit Bumrah is often sidelined with injuries. If the search for or creation of a bowler of Bumrah’s caliber is not undertaken immediately, the Indian team will find itself in danger in the coming days.
To salvage the situation, the Board (BCCI) is planning a special scheme. The BCCI will soon appoint three specialized pace bowling coaches in Bengaluru, Chennai, and Ahmedabad. Considering the continuity of injury crises and physical wear-and-tear in the Indian team, the Board has taken such a decision.
In recent times, young sensations like Umran Malik, Mayank Yadav, and T Natarajan emerged as potential historical pace assets, but they have been sidelined due to injuries. The uncertainty regarding when they will return to the squad fully fit remains a deep concern. (Last year, a top express bowler like Prasidh Krishna was sidelined for a long time due to injury, and there is still no permanent pace bowling coach in the camp). Apart from filling the vacancy left by Prasidh Krishna, another bowler will be assigned a permanent spot so that all three can take responsibilities sequentially based on world-class criteria.
The Board is targeting several notable prospects to groom into express pacers, including Balaji, T.A. Sekhar, Tinu Yohannan, Vinay Kumar, and VRV Singh. Amidst these steps to seek fresh talent, it has caught everyone’s eye that Bhuvneshwar Kumar is performing excellently at the club level. He might be the next star bowler.
In the T20 camps, senior players have advised the Indian team management to keep a close eye on these emerging stars. According to ongoing discussions, the Board will launch camps as soon as the three specialized coaches are appointed.
