Nationwide Campaign Led by Central Government for Commonwealth Games

A favorable environment will be created for the 2030 Commonwealth Games to be held in Ahmedabad, which will involve bringing together prominent sports figures and youth leaders. Mansukh Mandaviya, the Union Sports Minister, stated that a nationwide campaign plan is being formulated for this purpose.
Recently, a delegation led by Dr. Anand Katkar, President of the Commonwealth Games Federation, met with the Sports Minister. The primary objective of the meeting was to set a timeline for organizing this mega event. Mandaviya further stated that plans are being made to upgrade the infrastructure for this purpose.
The Sports Minister emphasized that awareness would be created in schools, colleges, and universities across the country regarding the Centenary Edition of the Commonwealth Games. In a statement released on Saturday, he said:
“We are ready to host the Commonwealth Games in 2030 as a host nation. In this event, more sports will be included, and world-class infrastructure will be available to fully support the successful hosting of the games through various government schemes.”
He added that they aim to instill a sense of pride among Indian youth through the centenary edition of the Games. To spread sports culture among the youth, this nationwide campaign will work to attract more young people toward sports.
The Sports Minister also highlighted that India played a major role in the 2036 Olympic Games bid, aiming to establish a strong presence. However, no detailed information has been provided regarding that at this moment.
After two decades, the Commonwealth Games will return to India. Previously, India hosted the Games only once, in 2010. It is worth noting that in July-August, the 10th Commonwealth Youth Games will be held. Although the number of sports in the Commonwealth Games has been reduced to only 10, sports like cricket and shooting have been excluded from the list for this edition. However, plans are being made to host them as separate events.
