Pfutsero Campaign Calls for Integrity and Responsible Voting

The Chakhesang Clean Election Movement (CCEM) launched its Clean Election campaign on September 8 at Pfutsero, calling on citizens to uphold integrity, honesty and responsible voting. Supported by the Chakhesang Baptist Church Council (CBCC), the movement urged voters to reject the buying and selling of votes and make informed choices based on candidates’ values and capabilities. CCEM chairman Rev. Dr. Kuzhopoyo Tunyi said the movement, formally started in 2017, remains politically neutral and aims to promote clean and transparent elections. He noted that the campaign has already contributed to progress in reducing electoral malpractices, including multiple voter entries and underage voter enrolment. Neiko Akami of the Nagaland Legal Services Authority highlighted key legal provisions under the Representation of People Act and encouraged citizens to understand their rights and responsibilities. Speakers from churches and community organisations also stressed that voters share responsibility for the quality of governance and development. The campaign included the release of a Clean Election song in the Chokri Chakhesang dialect and brought together representatives from churches, public organisations, women’s and youth groups, students’ unions and village councils. Leaders called for greater public participation and urged voters to resist the influence of alcohol and easy money during elections. The movement emphasised that clean elections require collective action and sustained commitment from the entire community.
