Presence of Mind: Shreyas Iyer’s Diving Relay Catch Hailed as Never-Before-Seen
The IPL witnessed an unbelievable moment yesterday at the Wankhede Stadium. Mumbai Indians’ captain Shreyas Iyer took a catch that has left the cricket world stunned. According to experts, such a catch has perhaps never been seen in the IPL before. The “rebound catch” that Shreyas pulled off is being hailed as the first of its kind. In other words, a catch that was initially fumbled or dropped by a teammate was snatched out of the air by Shreyas.
The second player had almost dropped the ball after it slipped from his hands. But Shreyas, showing incredible presence of mind, dove forward and grabbed the ball before it could hit the ground. If he hadn’t caught it, it would have surely been a boundary.
This incident occurred during the 18th over of the Mumbai Indians’ innings. Marco Jansen hit a powerful shot toward long-on. At that moment, it seemed the ball would clear the boundary for a six, but Shreyas jumped high and pulled the ball back into the field just before crossing the line.
While falling back, he tossed the ball to another fielder (teammate) who was nearby. Seeing this effort, Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, and others were left speechless. Everyone is praising Shreyas for this catch. People are calling it a “miracle catch.” Shreyas’ intelligence and physical agility are being highly lauded.
